Mini Unveils All-Electric Cooper

The Cooper offers up to 250 miles of range, but will we get it in America?

Meet the new Mini. It looks like the old Mini, and every Mini that came before. We say that as a compliment.

This Mini though is all-electric, offering 181 hp and 213 lb-ft of torque from an electric motor up front, delivering a 7.3 second 0-60 time. If you'd rather live out an Italian Job Bank Heist fantasy, you might want the faster SE model, with 214 hp and 243 lb-ft of torque. That one shaves .6 seconds to 60 mph.

OK, that's not blisteringly quick these days, but you're probably also not robbing banks with Charlize Theron.

Mini says the range is rated up to 249 miles for the SE trim, and 189 miles for the entry-level E model. Worth noting these numbers are rated by Europe's WLTP, which is typically a more rigorous standard than our EPA ratings, meaning we should see higher range estimates state-side.

That's still a big if. There's no word on whether Mini plans to cross the Atlantic with this one, but we hope they do.
